ARFF FOAM REMOVAL & DISPOSAL

PURPOSE 

​

The purpose of this is to remove the AFFF foam from the ARFF Vehicle that contains PFAS which has been listed to be dangerous and hazardous. And to dispose of the AFFF safely 

PFAS are chemicals that may be present in AFFF, a type of fire-fighting foamPFAS can accumulate and stay in the human body for long periods of time, causing a buildup that may have negative health effectsSome of the health risks and damages of PFAS exposure from fire-fighting foam include

​

  • Increased risk of thyroid disease and certain cancers, such as testicular, kidney and bladder cancers

  • Fertility issues and pregnancy complications

  • Changes in the immune system and hormone regulation

  • Increased cholesterol levels

SCOPE OF WORK

Remove AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) from ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Vehicles) other fire apparatus (QRV/RIV, Aerials/Ladder trucks, Pumpers and Tankers -This would involve draining the foam tank completely of AFFF foam into a totes or drums from the foam drain valve.

 

Flush and clean tank - using clean water and 3 cycle rinse, vacuum out any remaining residue. Which would be captured and disposed along with the AFFF foam.

 

Clean metering system - during this activity the metering system will be thoroughly inspected, if any problem is found will notify fire department.

 

Clean manual metering valve - the manual metering valve will be flushed with solution and any foam found in system will be disposed of properly.

 

Clean and flush any onboard foam transfer pumps and hoses

 

New Foam non AFFF – Fill foam tank with either customer supplied foam or order the foam through Fire Apparatus Service Technician

 

Install new labels at foam fill areas, showing type of foam in truck, remove any old labels identifying old foam

​

OUTPUT BASE TESTING - Perform Output Base testing per FAA Part 139 24-11

​

  • Will provide a written report onsite once work is complete.

  • Ability to assure AFFF Foam is properly dispose and pick is completed in a timely manner.

  • Provide turnkey of foam removal

  • Provide perform ARFF NFPA 414 testing
